We Made a Grand Marnier Slushy!

Hey friends, so Jessi and I have been quarantined for a while, and to recreate that Epcot magic, we rigged up a Grand Marnier slushy. Here’s what’s involved:

In a blender, combine:

  • 1/2 cup of Grand Marnier
  • 1/2 cup of vodka
  • 1/2 cup of simple syrup
  • 1 cup of sour mix
  • 2 drops of red food dye and 4 drops of yellow food dye (if desired)

Pile high with ice, and blend. Use a long-handle spoon to check consistency and add more ice as needed. That’s it!

“What is simple syrup?”
You have the option of buying simple syrup, but why waste your money on a product that’s super easy to make at home? Take an empty mason jar, put in half a cup of sugar, half a cup of water, and shake until the sugar dissolves. The syrup will probably require multiple rounds of shaking to dissolve fully. Make sure to refrigerate it when not in use, and it should stay good in the fridge for up to a month.

“What brand of sour mix should I get?”
Hi, you must be new here. Sure, you have the option of buying sour mix, but most store-bought shelf-stable sour mixes are chock-full of all sorts of preservatives and artificial flavors. Honestly, they taste like flat room-temperature Mountain Dew, so again, it’s better to make it at home. Similar to the homemade simple syrup, break out a mason jar and add:

  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup lemon juice
  • 1/4 cup lime juice

Just like with the simple syrup, shake the jar until everything is dissolved (knowing it may require multiple rounds of shaking), and store in the fridge; it should be good for at least two weeks. You can squeeze the lemons and limes directly or use an organic pre-squeezed juice. I’ll fully admit to being lazy and using the bottled juices.

“Which vodka should I use?”
I’m no expert on vodka, so I would say to use whichever vodka you like. Remember that a good vodka won’t taste like much on its own; it’s really the Grand Marnier and sour mix doing the heavy lifting flavor-wise anyway. If you’re truly stumped, the Epcot drink description calls for Grey Goose.

So yeah, that’s all there is to it. You can simplify things with store-bought ingredients or add a little extra flair by going homemade. Hope this scratches the Epcot itch. Happy slushy-ing!
