Hey folks, I wanted to give a little preview for some things happening this month. Make sure to mark your calendars for these awesome events!
Beer & Hymns
Thursday, October 5th, 7:30pm
Bold City Brewery, Rosselle St. location
I love this event because it’s exactly what it sounds like: good beer and old hymns. Make sure to come a little early and stay a little late; there are some great people to hang out with, some outstanding beer from our friends at Bold City, and at least one really awesome dog who looks like a miniature cow.
Thursday, October 19th, 7pm
Riverside Baptist Church
This new church headed up by Nathan and Jenny Hamm has been a partner from the beginning, and it’s always a joy to gather with them. Expect a beautiful ancient space with some fairly new ideas, songs, and videos. There will be some praise of God but likely some lament as well, and once the gathering itself is over, we always head up the street to the restaurant at Riverside Liquors for a casual afterparty and a chance to talk more.
Faith Shift Processing Party
Saturday, October 21st, 7pm
Hosted by The Well at Springfield and facilitated by author Kathy Escobar, this event is a chance for church burnouts, spiritual refugees, and freedom seekers to gather in a nonjudgmental environment and talk through spiritual transitions. When our faith shifts, it can be disorienting, but we don’t need to go through that shift alone.
Brew Theology: Jax Kick-Off
Tuesday, October 24th, 7pm
Aardwolf Brewing Company
Alright, y’all, this is the big one! Our first Brew Theology gathering will be fairly casual in nature– a chance to get to know each other, learn where people are coming from, and plot our discussion topics for the next several months. We couldn’t be more excited about sharing this time with you! Watch this space and the Brew Theology: Jax social media accounts for more updates!
But wait, there’s more!
Official announcements from Urban Soul and StoryHouse are still forthcoming, so watch their pages and the Bar Chaplain social media pages for updates on those events! Also, if you know of others involved in the intersection of bar culture and spirituality, please let me know. I’m always happy to give other gatherings a shoutout and to attend myself. There are a lot of exciting things happening around Jacksonville, and it’s awesome seeing these ministries grow and unfold!
