Hurricane Irma: We’re Safe

Hey folks,
I’ve got a few longer posts in the works, but with Hurricane Irma on its way out of Jacksonville, I’m going to save those posts for next week. The next few days will be about checking in with family, friends, and students and making sure everyone is safe. While Jacksonville has been very fortunate in terms of damage, it looks like the rest of Florida hasn’t been so lucky. Currently, there are hundreds of thousands with no electricity (myself included), and I’m still watching reports from friends in Tampa via social media. Through some miracle, I still have internet, but my laptop battery is limited, and it could be a while before power returns, so I have to use the computer sparingly.

Storms are a funny thing. They may damage buildings, but they can also strengthen communities. I’ve helped and been helped by amazing neighbors and friends during this time, and that shared hospitality really gives me hope for this world.

As Julian of Norwich put it, “All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.”
